Country music fans tuned-in and opened their hearts, calling into the KISS Country Cares for Kids Radiothon, a live radio broadcast and pledge drive that raised more than $220,000 for Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundation.
Over the two-day event, listeners pledged to donate $20 a month, and throughout the day, WKIS Kiss Country hosts talked with patients who shared personal experiences on air.
Funds raised during the radiothon will go toward the construction of the new Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital scheduled to open summer 2011. Once complete, the facility will feature all private patient rooms, operating rooms, medical/surgical and oncology units, ambulatory services, a conference center, private physician areas and a family waiting area. To date, the annual KISS Country Cares for Kids Radiothon has raised more than $1,200,000 for Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundation.
