At the risk of redundancy but in the nature of the Hollywood Gazette's Father's Day edition tradition, following is a dozen of my favorite Dad-isms: Lessons of Life.
A “Dadism” is anything I have learned from my father whether it is a proverb he has preached, a value he has instilled, a philosophy he has lived by, a tradition he has held, a story he has shared or a joked he has told. “Dadisms” are and have been a consistent presence in almost every walk of my life.
1. Never complain; never explain
2. Spare no expense when it comes to health and education
3. A?journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step
4. You can’t make an omlette without breaking any eggs
5. Think things through methodically because it’s the obvious factors that get overlooked
6. Never live in the past, just learn from it
7. Never lend money that you can’t afford to give away
8. Pursue your dreams even if they won’t make you rich
9. Never spend on a gift what you think someone would spend on you; spend based on the occasion and based on what you can afford
10. Give to charity
11. Bad cheese from my deli is better than bad cheese from yours
12. Save your money, one day it will return the favor
