The Holocaust Documentation & Education Center Reference & Research Library held a Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony last month. The new library, located at 2031 Harrison St., provides access to Holocaust related materials (books, journals, videos, etc) for teachers, students, researchers, historians and the general public. The Library also hosts free public author series every month.
Close to 150 people attended.
“This was an inspiring and historic occasion for all those who, like myself, have been fortunate in surviving the holocaust and as a memorial for all those many millions who perished as a result of it,” said Honorary Consul of Guatemala John Bauer. “For the present and for the future, these atrocities must always be remembered, and this is what this museum is all about.”
The current collection includes: books on the Holocaust and related topics; Holocaust books for young adults; books in the following foreign languages: Hebrew, Spanish, German, Polish, French, Czech, Slovak, Hungarian, Dutch, Chinese, Italian, Romanian, Yiddish, Russian and Portuguese; periodicals such as History & Memory, Hidden Child, Teaching Tolerance, Yad Vashem Studies and Yad Vashem Magazine; and videos and DVDs, including a copy of each of the Center’s 2,400 eyewitness testimonies.
Library hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. by appointment. For information, visit www.hdec.org or call 954-929-5690.
