The work of David Leroi is often described as Lichtensteinesque – a form of distorted Pop Art. Although not denying this Pop influence, Leroi leans more towards an edgier form of Agitprop Art. He does this through his use of political comments, which turn the capitalist system against itself. Leroi’s work is very much influenced by the Situationist International movement, which emerged in the 1950s as an offshoot of the Paris-based collective Letterist International, a radical group of artists and theorists. This movement was influenced by the preceding avant-garde movements of Dadaism and Surrealism. While informed by these earlier art theories, Leroi’s work refers to the realm of contemporary issues. Gallery admission is $7 for adults; $4 for students, seniors, and children ages 4 to 17; and free to Center members as well as children 3 and under. Opening reception, $10 for non-members.
