Sushi has entered the American palate as a cultural influence from Japan. But do you know what sushi is? (Hint: it’s not raw fish, but rather rice made with a bit of vinegar and sugar.) Served with a variety of accompaniments, including cooked or raw fish and vegetables, it can take many forms. Take a lesson in a hands-on workshop in the basics of sushi with Mitsutoshi Sekita, sushi chef from a Japanese restaurant in Plantation, Fla. Learn how to make sushi, cultural information about sushi and, of course, enjoy eating it! Materials: bring a sharp 7-8 inch knife, a cutting board approximately 10” x 15”, an apron and a dish towel. For more information or to register, go to www.morikami.org.
