Media Alert/Calendar Listing Local Residents Can Have a Huge Impact on Ending Hunger by Walking/Running Miles for Meals During Feeding South Florida’s 3rd Annual March for Hunger 5K Walk/Run on 3/3/13 Event is a Simple Opportunity for Residents to Provide Meals for the Hungry; Corporate Sponsors Needed Who/What: Feeding South Florida™ is inspiring area residents to walk/run miles for meals to end hunger and register for its 3rd Annual March for Hunger 5K Walk/Run, taking place on Sunday, March 3. The 5K will kick off at Charnow Park, and the community event will happen along the acclaimed Hollywood Boardwalk and beach area in Hollywood, Fla. Participants can simply walk or run to make a big difference in the effort to end hunger for nearly 1 million residents of Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe and Palm Beach Counties who are food insecure. For every dollar raised, Feeding South Florida can provide six meals. Feeding South Florida asks (but does not require) that each participant try to raise $100 (equaling 600 meals). Awards will go to the top three in each age group: Top Three Overall Winners, Both Male and Female, Top Three Fundraising Teams, Top Three Fundraising Individuals. An easy way to fundraise is to text EAT (RUNNER or TEAM NAME) to 52000 to donate $10. The race will be professionally timed by Split Second Timing using disposable transponders to ensure accurate scoring and time results. Participants can enjoy a Zumba pre-race warm up. Children are encouraged to bring cans to donate, and build can sculptures while their parents are enjoying the race and after the race (Feeding South Florida volunteers will supervise children ONLY during the race). They can also splash in water fountains and enjoy other activities at Charnow Park. Funds collected will help Feeding South Florida to achieve its mission: to end hunger by providing immediate access to nutritious food, leading advocacy efforts in hunger and poverty, transforming lives through innovation, education, and inspiring agents of change to foster self-reliance. Corporate sponsorships, ranging from $5,000 to $25,000, are critical to help Feeding South Florida make the 3nd Annual March for Hunger a success, and are now available. Corporations may also provide product sponsorships by purchasing or providing gates, bibs, timing tags, food, tables, water, chairs, video/audio equipment, silent auction items, etc. Businesses interested in becoming an event sponsor should contact Feeding South Florida’s Community Investment Department at (954) 518-1818 or email communityinvestment@feedingsouthflorida.org. “The March for Hunger is a wonderful and easy way to get out and have fun, and walk or run to provide meals for the many individuals in South Florida who are food insecure,” said Feeding South Florida Executive Director Paco Velez.
