The Florida Panthers, the National Hockey League (NHL), and the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) are working to bring the EverFi Future Goals program to South Florida Schools. Bill Lindsay, a Florida Panther Alumni and the Panthers Street Cats initiative visited students at Driftwood Middle School as the school had the highest participation in the EverFi Future Goals program.

More than 630 Driftwood students participated in the EverFi Future Goals program, which is provided online. There are ten modules which use hockey themed lessons to teach students about STEM.

Lindsay said, “This is a great way to teach students about science, since there’s a lot of math and science in hockey.”

Linda Gancitano, a physical education teacher at Driftwood, was glad that so many students participated in the modules. She believes the EverFi Future Goals program helped Driftwood students master important STEM concepts. “Physical education teachers are always looking for ways to bring in science, math and technology to their classes. This is one way to do. The kids enjoyed this,” she said.

The Driftwood students enjoyed an assembly involving the Panthers Street Cats initiative. The students who completed all ten modules received a certificate, a Panther towel, and a lanyard. The students were also able to meet the Florida Panthers mascot, Stanley C. Panther.
