Boulevard Heights one of many neighborhoods to celebrate National Night Out Aug. 5

Hollywood residents got together to celebrate the National Night Out at various Hollywood community centers on the evening of August 5. Residents enjoyed food, fellowship and the opportunity to talk with police officers and City leaders in a social atmosphere.

Ellen Boyarsky, president of the Boulevard Heights Neighborhood Association helped organize the National Night Out event at the Boulevard Heights Community Center. She worked with other volunteers to prepare hotdogs, chips, cookies, cake and other food items for event.

“We had police officers, a bounce house, balloon animals and face painting. This was a nice community event,” said Boyarsky “We want to encourage people to get involved with Crime Watch.”

Judy Bates, past president of the Boulevard Heights Neighborhood Association said, “It is important for people in the neighborhood to get together. This gives people a chance to meet their neighbors.”

Major Manny Marino of the Hollywood Police Department said he was glad to see people getting together for a community event. Marino said he hoped people would get involved in Crime Watch and work with the police to prevent crime.
