McNicol Middle School offers new advanced computer courses

McNicol Middle School now offers a program known as the Career and Professional Education Academy. This is the first year the Academy program is offered at McNicol.

Students in the program spend three years learning Microsoft Office Suite software. Those who excel in the program are eligible to earn a certification, on top of their high school credit for the course.

“The students who complete this program receive an industry certificate,” said Phillip Shaver, Magnet Coordinator at McNicol. “They’re learning important career skills and getting prepared for high school and college.”

Charles Sirjue enjoys studying computers at McNicol Middle School.

Charles Sirjue, a student in the Academy at McNicol, says he like computers and technology, and plans to be a software engineer.

This new program is a branch of the school’s International Affairs and Business Magnet.
