As costs of higher education continue to increase, many young people today struggle to afford college. The Hollywood Florida Scholarship Foundation is acutely aware of this problem. Consequently, members of the Foundation established a program to raise money for those would-be students called Grapes for Grades.

Grapes for Grades works closely every year with the Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to host a fund-raising event. This year’s soiree is to be held at the Hollywood Beach Marriott on Friday, September 16 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Money raised at the event will benefit the foundation.

“We want to send more high school graduates to college,” said Ina Kushner-Rentzer, vice president of ways and means for the foundation. “We are providing scholarships to about 100 students. Helping these students is important, they are the future of our country.”

Students must have a 3.2 GPA and show they are in need of financial aid to receive a Grapes for Grades Scholarship. “We want to help young people who have fewer economic resources pay for college,” said Kushner-Rentzer.

“So many young people have to overcome so much to attend college,” added Pat Chukerman, president of the foundation. “It’s our responsibility to help them.”

Tickets are $75 in advance and $90 at the door.  Call 954-923-4000 for details.
