Hollywood Hills Marching Band earns superior ratings in competition

The Hollywood Hills High School Marching Band recently participated in the Florida Bandmaster’s Association assessment at Coral Springs High School. Most of Broward County’s schools that have marching band programs were part of the event. The Hollywood Hills band received a superior rating in every category of the event. Bands were judged on their musical ability, marching skills, general effect, color guard and percussion.

Jeffrey Lawson, the director of the Hollywood Hills band is pleased with the progress the 72-member band has made.

“We are building a successful program at Hollywood Hills,” Lawson said. “We are getting better.”

Adham Abdul, who plays baritone, said he enjoys working with his bandmates. “We did well as a unit,” he said.

Many band members said that members look out for each other and often become lifelong friends.

“We are like a family,” said Shawnae Evan, a drum major who also plays the oboe and clarinet. “I like the vibe of the band,” she said.
