The Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce honored a number of business and community leaders during a recent meeting.
Broward County Vice-Mayor Beam Furr received the 2017 Beacon Award. “I am honored to receive this award,” he said.
Furr has taught school in Broward County and has been a strong advocate for children and the environment. He is working to promote an education and credentialing process for people who work with young children. Furr served as Hollywood Commissioner for 12 years and worked to bring resouces to the area. He worked to gain funding for the rehabilitation of homes, the development of parks, infrastructure, early childhood education programs and safe neighborhoods. He is the Broward County Commissioner for District Six and the Chair of the Children’s Services Council.
Hollywood Police Chief Tomas Sanchez received a 2017 Community Leadership Award. “It is an honor to be recognized by the community’s business leadership,” he said.
Sanchez has more than 30 years of experience in law enforcement. He began with the Hollywood Police Department in 1988 as a police officer, worked his way up the ranks was appointed Chief of Police in July of 2015. He is responsible for a police department with about 450 employees.
Joy Satterlee, executive director of the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood received a 2017 Community Leadership Award. “It is an honor to receive this award but I could not have done it without the people in this organization,” she said. Satterlee oversees and directs all aspects of a multidisciplinary arts non-profit organization that is one of eight to be designated a Major Cultural Institution by the Broward County Commission.
John Passalacqua received a 2017 Business Leadership Award. He has lived in Hollywood for 33 years. He and his partners are developing the Seaside Village Condominium and Single Family Homes and working with a strong team. Passalacqua is serving as Chairman of the Hollywood Planning and Development Board.
Michael Boucher also received a 2017 Business Leadership Award. Boucher and his brothers founded Boucher Brothers nearly 30 years ago. Now, Boucher Brothers is one of the largest Pool and Beach Management companies in the nation. They have extensive experience in beach concession management and provide high level service to many South Florida hotels and condominiums. Michael is the chief operating officer for the company and responsible for identifying emerging markets for business development.
Maribel Ruiz was recognized for receiving the 2016 Small Business of the Year. Her business, Skin & Body by Beauty of Wax has grown from a one room, one employee operation to two locations, full service spas.
Beth Allen, Community Relations Coordinator for the Lifelong Learning Institute at Nova Southeastern University was recognized for receiving the 2016 Leadership Hollywood Award. She has extensive business and community experience.
Art Herrera – Color Reflections was recognized as 2016 Ambassador of the Year. He has combined his training in media technology and love of photography into a career, working into graphics and printing. He has staying current in a changing industry for more than 30 years.
Cate Farmer was recognized as 2016 Hollywood Business Woman of the Year. She is the general manager of Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort. Farmer has extensive experience in the hospitality industry.
