Hollywood's talking trash: commission passes ordinance to conceal dumpsters with enclosures and landscaping

Document

The Hollywood Commission passed an ordinance to require that dumpsters be enclosed at a recent meeting.

Hollywood city staff staff recognizes that enclosures can be expensive – ranging from $3,000 and $20,000. But they believe the ordinance will create a cleaner appearance for Hollywood and improve the quality of life for residents and business owners.

The ordinance applies to dumpsters citywide and requires enclosures for dumpsters adjacent to alleys. Exceptions include dumpsters that are essentially hidden or out of sight on various properties.

The enclosure must be 12 inches higher than the dumpster and the and gates must be situated such that gates and access do not impede right-of-way or extend over property lines. The enclosures must also have a separate pedestrian gate from the service gate. Landscaping is required around the enclosure and subject to the visibility of the enclosure location.
