History of Chivalry entertains crowds at Florida Renaissance Festival

Members of the History of Chivalry, which practices at TY Park, are performing real-life combats during the Florida Renaissance Festival at Quiet Waters Park in Deerfield Beach. The combats take place in front of hundreds of spectators attending the festival.

Group members say they love to train in the demanding sport of medieval combat. Those who participate fight to the yield, meaning the person who becomes too exhausted to continue loses the fight.

Members study medieval combat and often make their own armor. The challenge is fighting with very heavy armor on – and even though it looks rough, no one really gets hurt, just tired.

Before and after the competitions, members spend time together and socialize at the encampment.

“We love this and we train hard during practices. It is a demanding sport and we are all friends,” said Chris Bagnall, president of the History of Chivalry.
