Destiny DeLude loves to have a place to sit outside after long hours in the classroom. A rising junior at South Broward High
School, she has spent time working in the school’s Reading Garden, a beautiful area on campus where students can sit and relax among about 100 plants.
“This is nice place to sit. I like coming here and want to help make the garden better,” DeLude said.
Her friend, Savannah Armas, also spent time working in the Reading Garden. “This is nice place to spend time and I am working to help make it a nicer place,” Armas said.
Susan Ostheim, an art teacher at South Broward, visits with a group students working in the Reading Garden. They are moving benches and working with the various plants. Two English teachers began the Reading Garden in 2009. They were able to obtain grant money and the City of Hollywood donated about a dozen plants, which have grown. Now there are many beautiful plants in the garden. There are plenty of butterflies.
“This is a place where students can come and read and relax,” Ostheim said.
