City Encourages Discussion on General Obligation Bond and Associated Projects

The City of Hollywood is in the very preliminary stages of encouraging residents to vote for a general obligation bond that would raise money for various city projects ranging from park improvements, road resurfacing, and new equipment purchases to a new city hall and a new police station.

But all these projects come at a price. Preliminary estimates for a new city hall would be about $35 million and a new police station would cost about $49 million. LED lighting around the city installed would cost about $7 million. Various neighborhood improvements would cost about $6 million and sidewalk expansion would be about $8 million. Street resurfacing would cost about $6 million. New fire equipment would cost about $5 million.

Currently, a list of the projects that residents want — and might be willing to vote for in the upcoming election — is being prepared. The project list has not been completed. “We are focused on hearing from residents and we are focused on neighborhood improvements,” said Raelin Storey, spokesperson for Hollywood.

A number of community meetings will be held in the upcoming year to give residents a chance to voice their opinions and concerns. There will some workshops explaining the bond as well.  It is likely that the strongest focus will be on improving neighborhood infrastructure.
