Downtown Hollywood Celebrates St. Patrick’s Day with Annual Parade and Festival

It was a great day to be Irish, or to be Irish for the day, as The Hollywood St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival took over downtown Hollywood on March 11.

School bands, civic groups, businesses and other organizations took part with floats, stands, stages, food, drink, music, and fun all around.  Randall Reid, the director of the South Broward High School Marching Band, was happy that his band could participate.

Christine and Patrick Utter, owners of Shenanigans Sports Pub & Eastside Pub, had a float in the parade.  “I’m celebrating the fact that I’m Irish and a Hollywood guy,” said Patrick, who is indeed both!

John Samusson, the advisor of the McArthur High School Army JROTC, brought members of the program to the parade. “This is a leadership opportunity for our group. The students are working together to perform in front of an audience,” he said. The JROTC program is well respected and performs at various events in Hollywood.

The parade ended in the late afternoon but the party continued long into the night, as St. Patrick’s Day Festivals usually do.  And a good time was had by all.
