Spring Marshmallow Storm and Egg Hunt Was a Sweet Hollywood Community Treat

It was snowing marshmallows in March as kids and adults alike gathered at the Boulevard Heights Community Center to celebrate the Hollywood Spring Marshmallow Drop and Spring Egg Hunt. Younger children enjoyed an egg hunt, face painting, bounce houses and other fun activities. Children under age three could participate in the Little Peeps Pageant. There were a host of other activities geared to older kids as well.

Everyone munched on free popcorn and participated in the various activities until, late in the afternoon, the storm began — a helicopter dropped about 30,000 marshmallows on the field!    Older children ran to collect the marshmallows and redeem them for prizes or a chance to win a bicycle or a gift basket.

Vice Mayor Debra Case was on hand to enjoy the event. “This brought a lot of people together for a fun event,” she said.   “It’s great because it brings families together. I am happy to be here.”

Commissioner Traci Callari agreed, “This is a wonderful event,” she said. “There are so many people here and everyone seems to be having a good time.”

Emma Sweetland, 3, won the grand prize for the Little Peeps Pageant, while Amber McEvers and her daughter Axailya Rose won the category for best Mommy and Me Duo.  Chad Andresen came with his family. His young children participated in the egg hunt. “This was amazing. We had a lot of fun,” he said.

Tammy Coughlin, a vice president for the Greater Hollywood Jaycees, was giving away popcorn. “I enjoyed being a part of this event,” she said.

And a good time was had by all.
