Family Fun Day at Washington Park Hosted by the CEC

Nadine McCrea was excited about the back to school Family Fun Day event and backpack giveaway at the Washington Park Community Center. Each child received two backpacks filled with school supplies.

“We have a nice turnout and we received a lot of support this year from the community. A lot of the families in the community need help and this event was nice for parents, said McCrea, the executive director and founder of the Community Enhancement Collaboration (CEC). She is active in helping people in the Washington community park.

Those who came could enjoy a lunch of hot dogs and other refreshments. There was music and children play ball with some of the Hollywood Police officers. They could also learn about various organizations that provide community services. People could also receive free haircuts. And they could spend a fun day with family and friends.

Marika Guyton, director of community outreach for the CEC was pleased that so many people were getting together to have fun. She was glad that the children were receiving backpacks. “We want to help families in the community,” said Guyton.

Andrea Montgomery, a leader with HeartWay Church was among a group of volunteers handing out backpacks. “We are here because to share our love with the community,” she said.

McCrea has organized many community events over the years at the Washington Park Community Center.
