Hollywood Hills High School’s Girls Flag Football Team is Aiming for the State Playoffs

The Hollywood Hills Girls Flag Football team is doing well midway through the season. The team is 8-1 and won most games by large margins. To date, the Spartans defeated Flanagan, 59-0, Miramar, 49-0, and South Broward, 34-0.

The team’s top athletes include Holly Neher, the current quarterback, who also competes on the boys tackle football team. Neher is the first female to throw a touchdown pass during a boys tackle football game in Florida history. She was captain of the soccer team and is a captain in the school’s JROTC program.

“We are playing amazing football,” said Neher. “If we have drive and determination we can continue to win.”

Neher will attend St. Thomas University this fall as a political science major with plans of postgraduate study in law.

Other talented players include De’Jonice Parris. She plays safety and receiver, while serving as backup quarterback. Parris averages about three touchdowns a game. Another teammate of interest is Shallon Chai, a receiver and middle linebacker. Chai also averages three touchdowns a game.

Hollywood Hill’s girls flag football coach, Brandon Graham, believes the team could go far in the state playoffs. “Right now, the girls enjoy playing hard during practice and in games. If that continues, we should do well,” said Graham. He also coaches the boys tackle football team.
