Driftwood Middle School Students Develop App that Measures Energy Use by Classroom Devices

Members of the Driftwood Middle School Green Team developed an app designed to show the amount of kilowatts used by classroom devices at the school. Their goal is to reduce energy waste and overall use.

“We have found that our school uses too much energy and this app will show teachers and students that less energy can be used,” said Tristan Castillo, vice president of the Green Team.

The Green Team’s long term project, “How Low Can You Go”, aims to reduce energy use and waste through student and teacher collaboration.

Kayla Bello, president of the Driftwood Green Team said, “We are looking for ways to reduce energy use and this app will show people how much energy devices are using. They can then look for ways to reduce energy use.”

Matt Feiler, a Driftwood teacher who advises the Green, is proud of the work the students are doing and hopes this app can be used in more schools in the district.
