More and more businesses are being forced to close because of coronavirus.

But Port Everglades is open and operational. Broward County leaders are focused on keeping the Port functioning efficiently so fuel and cargo can be delivered as quickly as possible into the marketplace, according to County Mayor Dale Holeness.

“We are receiving and distributing jet fuel for the three international airports in the region – Greater Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Palm Beach and provide gasoline for 12 counties representing 38 percent of the state’s population. It is important we keep these essential services going,” said Holeness.

A Unified Command has been established to assure that all federal, state and local partners are working in concert to ensure the safety of Broward County.

All the cruise lines have voluntarily suspended operations for 30 to 60 days. People may see some of these vessels anchored offshore, or coming into the Port for short stops to pick up fuel and supplies. There is no shore leave for crew, according to Holeness.

Broward County’s Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) is open and operational. There are some reductions in flights, especially on the international side, due to the airlines adjusting to less travelers.

Due to reduced demand, FLL has suspended its valet parking. It will maintain a reduced presence to return the vehicles already in the valet area to arriving customers.
